We interrupt this exciting series of “Where to live in London with a toddler” to bring you a newsflash. You see, there’s been a spate of playground building around south London, and the LWAT sandpit correspondent is on the (play) ground to bring you the latest developments.

We already broke the exclusive news about the redevelopment of Victoria Tower Gardens but there has been some progress. A structure that looks like it might contain swings has been spotted. That’s right, swings. And something resembling a giant seesaw that might be the base for a tyre swing like the one in Lucas Gardens.

Crossing the river and heading south, we have observed this new playframe in the hitherto-ignored Kennington backwater of Pedlars Acre. I’m a particular fan of that jaunty parrot. I like the cut of his jib.

Moving west, plans are afoot to redevelop Peddlars Park as part of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens project. The new park will have a natural play feel, but we can only hope it retains that play train.

At the other end of Vauxhall Walk, the playground next to the Tea House Theatre has already been bulldozed and we can bring you an exclusive glimpse of the plans:

In case you can’t read that, it includes a wavy slide, a trampoline and tree trunks for climbing on.

Newsflash over!
